Cwa District 9 Contract 2021

After 15 months of difficult negotiations, 700 employees of St. Mary`s Regional Medical Center in Reno, Nevada, members of CWA Local 9413, won a solid contract earlier this year with general wage increases for all positions at the hospital. Two-thirds of employees received higher wage increases than the minimum provided for in the agreement. It was not an easy victory. The company even went so far as to fire a member of the bargaining team to intimidate members into accepting an offensive offer. However, the union resisted the employer`s regressive proposals and illegal actions, prevailed by enforcing the company`s indictment by the National Labour Relations Board for firing the bargaining team member, and was awarded a fair contract. Outstanding issues in the negotiations include wages, the company`s refusal to limit the use of subcontractors, and its attempts to reduce health care for retirees and eliminate the “no-layoff clause.” Meanwhile, members of CWA Local 1298 in Connecticut have begun negotiating with Frontier over their new contract, which expires Oct. 16. They are inspired by their colleagues in California and New York, where members of Electrical Workers Local 363 (IBEW) have just voted to reject a preliminary agreement with the company. An earlier update of local 1298 negotiations said, “Remember, good contracts are not won at the bargaining table, they are won on the ground.” The contract for cross-border workers in California expired on September 4.

This was a one-year extension granted due to the company`s bankruptcy crisis. A month after filing for bankruptcy, Frontier paid $38 million in executive bonuses but refused to raise the cost of living for hourly workers. Members of Consolidated Communications` (formerly Fairpoint) CWA Local 1400 in northern New England voted overwhelmingly in favor of ratifying a new treaty. Members reached a fair and equitable agreement after months of negotiations and actions by workers, including several public protests and a vote on the strike permit. The four-year deal, which covers 1,000 workers in Maine, Vermont and New Hampshire, includes wage increases, restrictions on the free movement of labor, regulations on working from home, and more. The day before the contract extension in California, members across the state voted 93 percent in favor of approving a strike. They also organized information pickets at Frontier`s offices and at the homes of members of the company`s bargaining committee. In what some members say looks like retaliation, the company began imposing six-day work weeks this week. CWA has filed dozens of ULP charges against the company in recent weeks for bad faith negotiations, threats and contract changes. Yesterday`s strike focused specifically on the company`s refusal to meet with the union. Members of CWA Local 1400 mobilized to win a fair and equitable contract with Consolidated Communications. .

Frontier Communications provides broadband to 3 million customers in 25 states and employs 11,300 union members nationwide. Frontier has its roots in Citizens Communications, which changed its name to Frontier in 2008. The company has since acquired fixed lines from Verizon in 17 states and FROM AT&T in Connecticut. The two giants have eagerly given up some of their fixed-line business to focus on largely non-unionized Wi-Fi. . 2804 Gateway Oaks Drive Suite 150Sacramento, CA 95833916-921-4500 Members of CWA District 9 in California will put this theory to the test.
